My motto in regards to child rearing:
Give your children a solid foundation to stand on and strong wings to fly with!
In addition I want my daughters to be well informed, well rounded, open minded and curious world travelers.
I also want them to turn out to be bright and accepting young women who are respectful of and well versed in other cultures and other peoples way of life. Furthermore I want them to be able to carry themselves in the world and in all sorts of settings, and for those aspirations I get to take a lot of shit here in the comment field of my personal blog. And NO I do not publish rude comments. For two reasons: First, I do not want to give rude people a forum on my blog to be rude. People can start their own blog if they want to write rude and shitty things. Second: I read these comments and find them so stupid that I feel obliged to protect the person who wrote the stupid comment from exposing their ignorance and stupidity since what they write is so shameful, and thus they should thank me for not publishing what they might have wrote in a moment that got the best of them due to various reasons,
but if I may guess most likely due to jealousy.
To the people who leave comments on my blog telling me that I am spoiling my children by letting them travel the world I have this to say: You are totally wrong! You are the ones who deprive your children by NOT letting them travel and learn from the world and by not exposing them to what is out there. You deprive your children by restricting them and keeping them ignorant in regards to the world around them. Because I take for granted here that since you express that you think travel is harmful for children you do not let your child travel since you believe it will do harm.
Now, upon reading this do not come and write something stupid about money and that some people cannot afford it (but since I can I apparently deserve a slap in the face) because that is a totally different discussion altogether. I do not blame anyone who cannot afford travel. I know many people who cannot afford to let their children travel, and guess what? Life is not fair, and I have nothing else to say than that travel is great, if you can afford it and if you are interested travel as much as you can. If you cannot afford it it is a pity, and if you are not interested it is a personal choice and I have no opinion or judgement against that at all. We are all different.
However, we all know that nothing is fair, and that is how it is everywhere and with everything. Nothing is fair in school and nothing is fair in the work place and resources are not evenly and fairly distributed in the world and that is why we all live under different circumstances, but do not come and tell me that I spoil my children by letting them travel the world.
I give them a huge advantage in the life that is not fair, but again nothing is fair and never will be.
Now, let us break down the argument.
1. If you accuse me of spoiling my girls because I let them travel, does that mean that you would not let your own children travel because you think that travel is spoiling children?
Or
2. Do you think I am spoiling my children by letting them travel just because all parents cannot afford to let their children travel?
Or
3. Do you think it is bullshit that my girls get to do so much because your children do not get to do so much?
Notice that there is a huge difference here so which one is it? Because I refuse to believe that you are just overly and deeply concerned with the health and welfare of my children.
If you are of the opinion that I should refrain from letting my girls travel because all children cannot afford to travel - Keep it to yourself because that is a stupid, stupid thing to even think and even worse to admit in writing, and that is why I will not publish it here on my blog.
Sorry, but I just had an urge to round-up and deal with the daily bull-shit here and now.
But now on to something more cheerful....
In from Paris
-We made it up there!
The girlies have been up in Tokyo Tower in Japan which
actually is a few feet taller that the Eiffel Tower.
Yes, the Japanese did that on purpose. Imagine that!
The Eiffel Tower is 320 meters (1050 feet) high
and the Tokyo Tower stands 332,9 meters (1092 feet) tall.
Anneli
